Product Description
Identify a spare scart socket on your television and push the adaptor fully into it. Connect the remote extender to the adaptor and locate it at the front or side of your tv, it has a sticky pad. This allows the remote control to operate the Freeview adaptor even though it is behind your television. Connect your aerial cable to the aerial socket on the adaptor. Finally plug in the mains power supply and connect the DC lead to the power socket on the adaptor. Select the appropriate AV mode of your television and use the remote control to set up the Freeview adaptor and do a service scan. ** Also use this adaptor to convert a VCR or DVD recorder to receive and record Freeview channels. **There is 3.5mm stereo jack socket for audio output. This means you can feed the audio signal from the adaptor to your existing amplifier if you have a TV without speakers or a home cinema system. This feature is not included on any other Freeview boxes of this type on the market.

5 out of 5 stars Classy terestrial digital receiver.   September 4, 2010

Great product and so compact. However, a complete novice to electronic gadgetry might be left a little perplexed with the lack of information in the little instruction booklet. Though having said that, luckily it is not difficult to set up and install.

5 out of 5 stars Very good for the price . . .   September 1, 2010

I bought the Konig SCART 11 just over a month ago for a bedroom Sony 14" flatscreen CRT TV. I'd agree with what previous reviewers have said: it is easy to install and use, good picture and sound quality, awful electronic programme guide.

The analogue sound output on a 3.5 mm socket is a very useful (and not usually found) feature, since it allows headphones or an ordinary set of PC speakers to be plugged straight in, giving good quality stereo sound compared to a TV's mono speaker. The volume of the socket output is also controlled by the remote control volume, which is handy.

It has most of the functionality you usually find on freeview boxes (with the notable exception of Red Button services), but not colour/brightness/contrast adjustment - I view this as a benefit since you can alter these on the TV if necessary.

Having a hearing problem, I like to have subtitles for films, and was concerned that these would not be available since teletext is no longer there. But happily subtitles are still available using this receiver (as long as the broadcaster includes them, of course).

In use, the box is fast to change channels, especially if you use the channel up/down buttons. Using the number buttons, it waits a second or so before changing channel, but can be forced to change quickly by following the number with the 'OK' button. The box has never frozen/crashed, even during rapid channel flipping, which is something that has happened on other freeview/freesat boxes I have used. It has occasionally lost sync between picture and sound, but this is solved just by switching off and back on (noting that there's a 2 second delay before anything happens when switching back on). There is no page up/down to jump through the channel list, but it does scroll through quickly if you hold the up/down buttons pressed.

Downsides: 1. The EPG is near useless. You can wait minutes for the guide to load up with no joy. It's easier to just scroll through the channels and look at the 'now and next' display, which loads up more or less straightaway.

2. You are dependant on the remote control for everything, so if it gets lost/broken/needs batteries you won't be able to use the box.

3. The red LED on the remote receiver always stays on whether the box is on, or on standby. Not a big deal but a bit annoying.

Overall, as long as EPG isn't too important to you, it's a great unit for the current price.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   August 29, 2010

Doesn't support red button but I never use red button anyway so it's not a serious matter. Teletext displays "No Teletext Data" but I never use teletext either. The manual is too small so I had to get a magnifying glass to read it but it doesn't give set-up instructions.

Now the brickbats are out of the way, on with the review. This excellent piece of kit is pretty much straightforward to set up: Connect the power supply to the DC 5v power socket, connect the remote control sensor to the IR socket, connect the antenna cable, plug it into the scart socket on your tv and plug in the power supply to your electricity wall socket. Select the designated AV channel on your tv, AV2 on my tv and up comes the On Screen Display (OSG), set your region and it launches straight into an auto scan to find the channels. The auto scan found all of the channels available in my area and the picture quality is excellent without pixelation and about the same high quality as I used to get from Cable. And that's about it! Subtitles are enabled by default and to turn off the subtitles press the yellow button, change the subtitles to off using the volume buttons on the remote and then "Enter". The info button which displays programme information on the bottom of the screen only shows the Now and Next programmes but there is the EPG button which displays full programme info for all channels to plan viewing. In use the EPG was a little slow and displayed "No Information" for most of the channels at first but then displayed the programme info after around a minute.

My tv is wide-screen so I had to go into the Main Menu > Setup > TV System to change the Aspect Ratio to 16:9. After that was done and with my tv wide-screen control set to auto, wide-screen was turned on and off automatically according to the channels' aspect ratio.

Cosmetically, the unit is unseen being behind the tv and the only thing that's visible is the small black dome shape of the remote sensor with its red LED which I stuck to the front of the tv with its adhesive pad. The scart plug is too long for the scart socket on my tv and sticks out a bit but doesn't affect performance.

Overall, the small size of the unit dictates its limitations but as a basic Freeview box it does the job excellently. It's perfect for anyone looking for a basic Freeview box. Anyone who can't live without the little extras like red button and teletext that somehow never actually get used should look elsewhere and probably spend more money!

Highly recommended for its superior picture quality and ease of use and so oil give it foive.

I bought this because the Roadstar version, which I'd bought 2 of previously was no longer available. I preferred the Roadstar EPG set up & overall quality.
