fantastic machine and great with panasonic TV July 28, 2010 Mr. D. Grandfield (Nottm) Had for 1 year. excellent with pana tv! after bad reviews and reading you cannot record freeview and watch sky/virgin or use adapter to your tv's freeview I was concerned when buying this. It does connect up and is easy to use with sky/virgin or split adapter to your tv's freeview so you can record freeview through dvd rec and watch sky/virgin and or freeview through tv. great product especially with 400gb. bit slow when in eco mode to start up, but great tv guide. Love this machine. cant use series timer when recording off sky/virgin, timer only.
A little annoying! July 18, 2010 S. Riddle We have always highly rated Panasonic products and although the Panasonic DMR-EX89EB-K Freeview+ 400GB HDD DVD Recorderhas some fine features, such as the ease at which you can record programmes we are very disappointed by a couple of things which we feel we need to share so other don't make the same mistake as us. Prevously we had used a Philips HDD DVD recorder which although had cost us less than 1/2 the price of the Panasonic always remembered where you had got to with watching a recording. Be it a DVD or from the hard drive so it was very easy to watch programmes is stages. We therefore assumed that this was a "normal" feature of a DVD recorder. Not the case with this Panisonic recorder though. We find it very tedious that it returns to the beginning of every recording and you have to wind your way through to the point you have watched to. We have even taken to keeping a written note of the time we have got to to make it easier to find the point again. The wonders of modern technology!! This to us is a real bug-bear and step backwards - even worse than VHS. So if like us, you never have time to watch a film/programme in one sitting bear this in mind before you buy! We would send it back if we could! We did spend time reading up the the manual before we bought it to make sure it did eveything we wanted but hadn't even considered this would be an issue. The other annoying feature is in the recorded programme list it tells you what time the prgramme was recorded (who cares weeks after the event!!) instead of the length of the recording which would much more useful. Instead you have to go though menus to find this out. A little more thought in these areas and we would have given it a gold star.
Panasonic DMR-EX89EB-K 400GB HDD DVD recorder July 9, 2010 Joe Superb piece of equipment at a really good price. Quick set up. Pause and rewind live TV (great for football). Very easy to set to record a single programme or a whole series. This doesn't do absolutely everything but it offers a lot of flexibility, certainly enough for most people. Whilst recording to hard drive you can start watching that programme from the beginning whilst it is still only part way through recording, or watch another previously recorded programme, or a DVD or (if the TV has an integrated tuner, watch another TV programme (but without pause live TV, of course). It integrates perfectly with Panasonic TV and home cinema to use just one remote control (except for ipod dock on the home cinema which still requires the other remote control). None of these machines ever give you as many hours recording as they say they do, but the 400gb hard drive on this will do over 160 hours at standard speed, which is the best quality -more than enough if you delete stuff after watching it -or burn onto DVD if you really want to keep it, which it does at very high speed. No complaints whatsoever. There is now a slightly more up to date model that has an HD freeview tuner instead of the standard but I decided against as it was about twice the price so not worth it for the small number of freeviw HD transmissions at the moment.
A four star machine July 4, 2010 TV Addict (Yorkshire) An excellent machine with a very wide range of functions. Delivery was quick and the initial set up seemed straightforward. My concerns about the small advert on the Programme Guide (read in previous reviews) proved unfounded.
My main 'gripe' and why I have given four stars and not five is with the 96 page Instruction Manual. This seems unnecessarily complicated and I am still coming to terms with what buttons to press! As a non technical person all I want is simplicity of operation. Gradually I'm getting there and discovering new possibilities and I can certainly recommend this well made Panasonic product.
panasonic dvr EX89. June 6, 2010 G. M. Williams (abingdon oxon) panasonic dvr ex89 wow this machine does everthing it says in the instruction book !!
A very good machine, only criticisim for me is --panasonic likes to look/work into panasonic peripherals, and switching, digital, analogue, hdmi, is a tad slow otherwise no problem
