4 out of 5 stars Panasonic DVD recorder   June 18, 2010

Very easy to set up and easy to use. Wish it didn't have adverts at side of programme guide but you learn to ignore them!

3 out of 5 stars Good but far from perfect   May 27, 2010

This is our first hard disc recorder and at first we were very happy with it. It does the hard disc recording well, and plays DVD well. Its solidly built and easy to set up.

But over the months we've had a number of niggles which all add up. I believe these are the same on the newer, bigger, versions of the same payer. For example:
- switching on and off takes the best part of a minute; it does some sort of boot sequence. Annoying at the best of times, far worse when a 2 year old wants his DVD now
- open/close button doesn't always work; sometime you press it and press it and it doesn't open or close. My guess is there is some subtle way of pressing it
- adverts on the TV guide menu; thought I could avoid them by not putting in our postcode but it reads the post code from the security settings (sneaky)
- not multi-region and difficult to unlock
- constantly things it needs retuning; pop up a "new channel found, return now?" box, when this is displayed the control is useless until you press OK
- when you retune it forgets all the repeat records
- no way of telling how long a DVD has to play

Just seems like Panasonic haven't done as good a job as they could.

1 out of 5 stars Beware - NOT MULTI-REGION   May 6, 2010

This is generally a user-friendly and efficient little machine. It is not, however, multi-region, as I discovered when I tried to play one of my handful of US DVD's.
Even cheap supermarket DVD players are multi-region these days, so it is just appalling that a high-spec machine from a major manufacturer should omit this feature.
For sheer miserliness, Panasonic deserve a black mark.
Amazon also take note please - if a machine isn't multi-region, you need to spell it out. I would have demanded a refund, but sadly the on-screen smallprint didn't address the multi-region issue at all. I was misinformed by omission.

4 out of 5 stars Does the job   April 5, 2010

The book of instructions for use is long and complicated. The actual instructions are fine but finding them is another matter??!!
Once you know what you are doing, it is very simple to use. Setting it to record with subtitles is very straight forward but I don't think that I will ever understand all the functions.
