1 out of 5 stars terrible product, awful customer service   July 28, 2009

I purchased this recorder from Avides AG in Germany in July. The first one was defective and after some hassle with the company was eventually returned for a replacement or refund. The replacement was received less than one week ago and was equally defective. After sending the company THREE Emails plus one through Amazon, a total of FOUR messages they do not have the courtesy to reply to me. When I submitted negative feedback on my original purchase after having difficulty contacting the company they immediately contacted me and asked me to remove the negative feedback. This I agreed to do as a gesture of goodwill. However, I now regret doing so.

It is only when you get problems with an item that you discover how good a company really is. In this instance Avides are appalling and I would never ever buy anything from them again.

1 out of 5 stars Don't buy Dawoo Hard Disc Recorders!   April 6, 2009

They work well for a few months and then they become unreliable, developing a firmware fault that gives the message `disc being initialised'.
I reported this fault after ten months and was `fobbed off' with advice to format the hard drive. It is now thirteen months old and is unusable even as a set top box, as it stalls and randomly selects programmes when it then reboots.
It's unfortunate, as I have had some very good Dawoo products in the past but I won't be buying anything from them again.
Don't take my word for it, Google "Dawoo PVR faults" and you will find that I am just one of thousands who have been disappointed with this product.

2 out of 5 stars common fault on Daewoo apparently!   December 30, 2008

HI - I brought this unit on the 1st December and it worked well until yesterday (28th December). It had the odd freeze but on the 28th it kept trying to initialise the hard drive and no matter what I did I couldn't turn it off. Eventually I turned it off at the wall and it seemed to reset itself when I plugged it back in. 2 hours later it started again and I ended up having to unplug it again. When I rang the helpline I was told this was a common fault on this model and cld have an exchange. A shame as it was easy to use and did everything it shld when working. I'm afraid I've gone for a dearer model now as I'm worried the same thing will happen with another Daewoo. Also the EPG and the "button" box weren't as good as I've seen on other models.

2 out of 5 stars Daewoo DSD9503TFPB - nice but noisy   November 21, 2008

popped it out of the box, plugged it in where the simple freeview tuner had been switched it on and it instantly found all the channels. Very intuitive to use, clear and concise instructions and controls. Then we noticed the noise of the HDD. The spin up and run noise is initially a little irksome but then you start focusing on it and depending on how the device is positioned it get louder or more irritating. Then the kids start shouting downstairs at 10.00pm because the telly is too loud, something we had not realised we had done just to cover the sound of the HDD. We were going to tolerate it but the wife and I looked at each other last night (we couldnt hear each other) and its going to have to go.
