Good basic reliable machine but lagging behind April 6, 2010

This is the second Akura machine I have had (I previously had the 160gb version). I purhased both of them secondhand or refurbished. I believe this one was originally sold by a big retailer. They are reliable macines, easy to set up and to use. I understand they are specifically designed to be easy to use. The picture quality for playback is first rate so much so that it is difficult to distinguish a recording from live TV. Hoever they are lagging behind because at this price level they are competing with machines that have HDMI, & this one does not. Also the coming generation of recorders will be able to record HD programmes, although they will be more expensive
