It was working fine... February 11, 2010 Shinjukumaster (London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm a big fan of Philips products, and went ahead to purchase the DTR220 despite the mixed reviews. The menu system is slow, and the remote fiddly to operate for elderly persons. Some channels were missing, but later appeared. And it did update the channel list (seemingly automatially) when new Freeview channels were added. But then the remote stopped working. Tried power reset, to no avail. I have a Philips universal remote, but could not find a code for the DTR220 - in any case, it seems the problems with the remote are internal. Now following the advice from Philip's Website to return the unit to place of purchase (at the time I went to a major high-street chain for expediency). Its under 12 months old, so do not expect any problems with a replacement. Ideally, I'd like a refund (Sale of Goods Act) and the option to purchase an alternative - probably Samsung. I cannot recommend this product. It should be fixable by a firmware/software download, but that seems unlikely to happen.

Philips DTR220 - Ultra Compact Digital Freeview Set Top Box
Excellent
Philips DTR220 Freeview Set Top Box January 22, 2010 Mrs. A. M. Marshall Christmas gift to our daughter and her partner who struggled to get extra programmes on their good large t.v. but couldn't afford (and didn't really see the need for a large Plasma screen). This has made a world of difference to them. Good quality pictures and easily connected.
Couldn't ask for more January 20, 2010 Adept Informatics (Hermitage, Berkshire) I previously had an old Freeview box that did the job but was becoming troublesome. I was a bit reluctant to spend a lot of money to "upgrade" an analogue telly that might give up the ghost but the price of the Philips was worth a punt.
It was simplicity to instal (turn it on and it finds all the channels) although I was careful to get the scart connections right, but the instructions included useful diagrams.
The quality was impressive and I even managed to play with the widescreen settings.
Worth every penny.
Performs without fuss January 10, 2010 Doc Pete (Nottingham, England) After our last set top box went up in a puff of smoke and tripped the power circuits I wanted to get a reliable and simple replacement. The Philips was very easy to set up and gives good reception of freeview channels using a suitable roof top aerial. The on screen displays are clear and so far I've seen none of the reported "freezes" mentioned in some other forums. I'm happy to recommend it as a no frills digital freeview receiver.
