Product Description This Geniatech USB Freeview receiver enables you to watch over 30 Freeview channels, listen to over 20 digital radio stations, record your favourite TV programmes on your hard drive with instant, time-shifting and schedule recording modes.
It comes with a user friendly software, a portable TV antenna and remote control. All you need to do is to plug the device into a USB port of your computer, insert the CD and install the software by following the instructions. Your computer will start working as a portable high-definition TV and DVD recorder.
It is compatible with the latest Windows Vista, comes with sleek and compact design and high quality finish.
There may be difficulty to receive freeview TV signal by the included portable antenna in some areas where the signal is not sufficiently strong. This is due to that the freeview service (www.freeview.co.uk) in the UK is not fully operating yet. The reception will be improving along with the progress of Digital Switchover Program. A signal amplifier or booster may improve reception capability in regions where the signal is marginally strong. (please note that reception capability may also be affected by various factors such as proximity to freeview TV/digital radio transmitters, tall building structures, thick walls, ceilings and etc.). A rooftop TV aerial may be required to watch freeview channels in regions where the signal is insufficient for a portable antenna.

Failed to Work February 3, 2010 Martin Steele You really do need to know what you are doing in order to load this product and get it working properly. I do know what I'm doing and couldn't.
I wanted it to record TV to my laptop so I can take a selection of my TV programmes with me on my travels but having installed all of the software it only picked up a small number of channels, none of which were any use. I know I can receive all of the Freeview channels as normally I use this aereal lead in my freeview box which picks up everything.
Previously, I had been using a Pinnacle USB tuner which worked perfectly and was easy to install but that died on me just outside the guarantee period.
These two experiences leave me questioning whether these devices can really supply a faultless solution to getting TV content on your Laptop. Maybe it's a case of going for a Media Centre and then transferring the files across when you need them.
of limited use October 28, 2009 Ian Donnelly (Scotland) It arrived in packaging that looked like it had been opened before and the software CD was unreadable. Digital Daffodil advised me to download software from the Geniatech website. It must be the slowest web site in the world - it took 10.5 hours to download 230mb!
I live in an area with quite a strong signal, but it's impossible to get any reception at all with the antenna they supply. I tried it with another ariel I had (same size) and it got 6 stations. When this ariel is attached to it's original pocket TV (from Aldi) it gets over 40 stations.
So I tried it attached to a large external antenna and now it works properly with 56 channels.
In conclusion if you are looking for DTV on a portable Laptop or Netbook this product is useless because it needs a full size telly ariel even in a good signal area.
It does not work July 31, 2009 M. carter 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It will not pick up any channels even if you have the right arial.
I have a freeview box on my tele which show's a full signal and picks up everything, using the same arial pluged into the tv stick and not 1 bar will show on the signal when setting up.
Have also tried in other parts of the country with the same results.
Its now in the bin.
£18.00 out of pocket, lesson learned.
Doesn't work July 29, 2009 David S (Berkshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first one of these I received didn't work at all - it didn't pick up a signal when plugged into a roof-mounted aerial that happily serves several telvisions in the house. I returned it and, Digital Daffodil tested it, agreed it was not working, and replaced it. Unfortunately the replacement also didn't work - same problem. I returned it and got a refund. I could not possibly recommend this product, based on my sample of 2.
frustrating July 25, 2009 forbesjr (leeds, uk) i bought this item to use with a dell hybrid which i bought without a tv card in it. This was easy enough to install and worked ok with the bundled software and signal for my roof aerial even though this software is massively inferior to other software avaible to watch tv and the picture broke up quite alot/didn't work well on certain channels.
really bought it to use with media center and while mc recognised all the channels during installation it kept saying no signal when i tried to watch them. This appears to be a common fault all though i couldn't test it with any other hardware to confirm it was the usb tuner. Support from geniatech is appalling (a common view on a lot of sites - for 2 days i couldn't access their website).
perhaps i was expecting too much from it and i don't think that the dell hybrid helped (i had to send it back as it was such a pile of %&$/.)Bought a sony vaio media pc with a dual tuner card in and it works like a dream. After i had trouble with this i did a lot of other research and reading. would recommend that you go with something from hauppage if you are going to use this above a laptop with an external aerial.
